Repeat medications for
treatment of long-term conditions
- Owners may request
repeat prescriptions for medicines for the treatment
of long-term illnesses. These include heart disease;
arthritis cases; endocrine diseases such as diabetes
and hyperthyroidism; urinary incontinence and skin
diseases such as atopic dermatitis.
- Medicines may only
be dispensed for long term stable cases.
- We
ask that 24 hrs notice is given for all repeat medications.
When an owner requests a repeat medication the vet
(dealing with the case if possible) reviews the
case, the medicine is then dispensed and checked
prior to collection. This also enables us to order
medicines from our wholesaler should we not have
them in stock.
Examinations for repeat
medications
- Patients on long term
treatment require regular medical checks so that
their health may be assessed in order to ensure
that they are receiving the appropriate medication
and dosage, and in order to comply with current
regulations. Long term illnesses frequently change
over time and regular checks helps us to note theses
changes.
- The interval may vary
but will usually be every 3-6 months.
- One of the examinations
can be the annual examination and vaccination
