Junior Health Checks

By time your puppy is 6 months old it will have undergone tremendous changes both physically and mentally:

Physical changes; eg; ---------------------------------------------
  • Growth in size and weight gain.
  • Fluffy coat being replaced by a less fine hair coat.
  • Needle sharp milk teeth being replaced by permanent teeth.

Mental changes; eg

  • Puppies will be developing a mind of their own and becoming a lot more adventurous and less dependent.
  • Able to learn much more quickly, both good and bad habits!
  • May be beginning to be assertive within the family.

During the adolescent period your pup's growth will slow down, whilst those dreaded sex hormones will begin to have an effect, with a gradual change into adulthood.

This is therefore a great time to see Barney again and at this 6 month check we will cover the following areas:

  1. General check up:Dental check
  2. Check the mouth for occlusion, milk teeth and discuss a dental preventive programme.
  3. Reproduction control: Discuss with you the course of action best suited for your circumstances.
  4. Nutrition: Your pup may now be at the stage where it may need a change in its dietary requirements.
  5. Parasite control: Barney may now require worming and this is a good opportunity to plan flea control programme.
  6. Behaviour and training: Around the age of 6 months pups begin to assert themselves and little problems and bad habits may be developing. This is a good time to discuss any behaviour/training problems you may be experiencing.

Please telephone the surgery to make an appointment for your pup's Junior Health Check.

There is no charge for the check up.
