I grew up in Devon and Cornwall and always wanted to be a vet. I graduated from Liverpool University in 1998. I met Gareth my husband at university and we both worked in mixed practice for the first 2 years after qualifying. We then worked in India for 6 months mostly neutering and rabies vaccinating dogs. The following few years we locumed at a busy first opinion small animal practice in the Midlands interspersed with travelling. I always wanted to get back to the South West and the sea, and we moved to North Devon in 2003. We have 3 teenage children, 2 dogs, a cat, 2 tortoises and a chicken. My interests at work, as well as routine surgery, are in behaviour and chronic pain and am able to offer acupuncture and pain clinics. Outside of work and the family I am a member of Appledore Pilot Gig rowing club. To keep sane I enjoy cold water swimming all year round and practice yoga. I run to keep fit and enjoy taking our dogs on long walks in beautiful North Devon.

I had to take my miniature schnauzer to be seen urgently after his legs kept giving way on our beach walk. They told me that they could see him almost straight away and although we had to wait longer I didn’t mind and understood. He was given pain relief, treated sympathetically and after 24 hours and more pain relief, we were on our way to Newquay, (a new practice), to be seen by a specialist vet for a scan which resulted in an operation for a ruptured disc🥹 From my first concerns on the beach to him being operated on and made comfortable was less than 36 hours. I can’t thank the team at Northam enough, especially Freya, the vet who saw us, for their prompt action in keeping Oscar’s obvious pain and discomfort to a minimal….. not to mention saving us a trip to Bristol had they not got us in to Newquay so quickly, (the vet there would be on holiday the day after). Also thank you for the help and advise I received for the insurance claim.☺️🐾

My daughter and I visited this practice this morning with a very poorly young wild rabbit found on the holiday park we are currently staying at. We turned up without appointment but the rabbit was taken care of promptly. As we suspected he had myxomatosis. We are animal lovers and can’t stop crying but we thank you for your help. At least we know he is not suffering

Love this place. They have cared so well for my two Romanian rescue dogs. I have one with a chronic illness and she gets all the right treatment and attention. The other has her own issues with other dogs and I feel comfortable taking her in without worrying about her getting overwhelmed.
